Library

The Hillview Library is managed by two dedicated librarians who strive to create a warm and welcoming environment. The library is frequently updated with popular fiction titles, a subscription to current magazines, and non-fiction texts that support students across the curriculum in their studies and independent reading. Our school librarians not only oversee the library but also lead EAL (English as an Additional Language) learning within the school. They serve as the primary resource for supporting EAL students at Hillview. We provide English language and literacy interventions for those who may need extra help, ensuring a safe space for our EAL students to thrive, grow, and learn during their time at Hillview.

The library regularly organizes school-wide events to foster a vibrant reading culture. These events include multiple short story competitions, an annual Book Week to celebrate World Book Day, and an ever-growing KS3/4 Book Club, which culminates in a literary trip to London at the end of each academic year. In addition, our library serves as a well-stocked stationery shop where students can purchase school supplies, a classroom for Year 7 library lessons, and a quiet space for sixth-form students to engage in independent study.

Our librarians are also leaders of EAL learning, highlighting our EAL initiatives, especially given the increasing number of EAL students each year. Additionally, the library team has provided a Year 6/7 transition reading list, which is always very popular with parents during open events, as well as a reading recommendations list from the National Literacy Trust.

Below are some photos from last year's Book Week, which our school holds annually to celebrate World Book Day.
