Year 10 MFL Barcelona Trip 2025: A Memorable Experience for Students

In mid-February, a group of students embarked on a school trip to Barcelona, Spain, organized by the school. The trip, which began at Gatwick Airport at 4 am on Thursday, 13th February, was designed to provide students with an immersive experience in the rich culture and history of this vibrant city.

Upon arrival in Barcelona at 10 am local time, the group was greeted with enthusiasm. They first travelled to the Barcelona Urbany Hostel, where students were assigned accommodations in shared rooms ranging from four to seven occupants, each equipped with a private bathroom. The hostel's arrangement ensured that all students were situated in close proximity to at least one teacher, allowing for easy supervision and support.

The itinerary commenced on Thursday afternoon, allowing students to settle in, store their luggage if needed, and grab some lunch. The first major excursion took them to the iconic La Sagrada Familia, where students could appreciate the architectural marvel designed by Antoni Gaudí. The group ended their day with a visit to Port Vell, indulging in some shopping and enjoying the harbour's atmosphere.

The following day, Friday, started with a continental breakfast at the hostel, followed by a self-guided visit to the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) located on Montjuïc. The afternoon included an engaging tapas-making class, allowing students to learn about traditional Spanish cuisine, which was complemented by a chance to explore the Poble Espanyol, an open-air architectural museum that showcases Spanish crafts and traditions. The day concluded at the famous Las Ramblas, where students had the opportunity to shop and experience the lively street culture.

On Saturday morning, students gathered again for breakfast before setting off to Park Güell for a self-guided visit. After lunch at La Boqueria Market, the group had more time for shopping on Las Ramblas and concluded their explorations with a self-guided visit to Casa Batlló. The late afternoon was reserved for a walk through Ciutadella Park and the Gothic Quarter, immersing students in the historical and artistic heritage of the city. Dinner was held at Restaurant Nervion, where students could reflect on their experiences of the day.

Throughout the trip, teachers expressed their pride in the students' exemplary behaviour. The students represented the school exceptionally well, demonstrating respect and enthusiasm during all activities. Their positive attitudes and willingness to engage with the local culture impressed both teachers and local guides alike, reinforcing the values the school strives to instil in its students.

The trip came to a close on Sunday 16th with a final continental breakfast at the hostel. The group then transferred to Barcelona Airport for their afternoon flight back to Gatwick North Terminal. Parents eagerly awaited their arrival, ready to welcome back the students after an enriching weekend filled with knowledge, teamwork, and unforgettable memories.

Overall, the school trip to Barcelona was a successful one that not only broadened the students' understanding of Spanish culture but also fostered camaraderie and personal growth amongst each other.
