Modern Foreign Languages

“Learning languages aids brain development: Not knowing any other languages curbs our ability to understand the world. Learning another language does not only open the doors to different cultures but is also a pleasant way of stimulating our brain”. Tribune May 2010

Students in Year 7 and Year 8 study both French and Spanish.

In Year 9, students will continue with either French or Spanish for one hour a week. Some students might want to follow our GCSE course in one year.

At Key Stage 3, students embark on a vibrant journey of discovery through captivating and immersive lessons that explore a diverse array of topics. Beyond the classroom, they can dive into a variety of dynamic clubs, such as the exhilarating games club and the enriching homework club, where they collaborate with peers from different groups while enjoying laughter and camaraderie.

In Year 7, students are offered an exciting opportunity to venture to the enchanting coastal town of Boulogne, where they can immerse themselves in new experiences and cultures. Year 8 brings another thrilling adventure with a visit to the charming streets of Rue. Our school also celebrates cultural traditions, such as the lively festivities of Bastille Day, and provides students with the chance to engage with industry professionals during our inspiring Language Conference Day.

As students progress to Key Stage 4, those studying French can broaden their horizons by connecting with peers from francophone countries through the enriching Comenius Project. They can also participate in unforgettable trips, including a delightful excursion to the bustling Christmas market in Lille, where the aromas of seasonal treats mingle with festive cheer.

Through this rich tapestry of experiences, students remain fully engaged, tapping into their potential and expanding their skills. They cultivate collaboration, foster independent learning, enhance performance abilities, and refine their problem-solving techniques, all while embarking on a transformative educational journey.

At Key Stage 3, students embark on an exciting journey filled with dynamic and engaging lessons, exploring a rich tapestry of topics that ignite their curiosity. They have the chance to join a variety of vibrant clubs, such as the Games Club and the lively Piñata Club, where they can bond with peers from different groups and create lasting memories while having fun.

Past students have had the incredible opportunity to travel to the enchanting city of Girona, Spain, and we are currently working on establishing an enriching exchange program with a local school there. Additionally, our Language Conference Day offers students the unique chance to connect with industry professionals, giving them insight into real-world applications of their language skills.

At Key Stage 4, those who dive into the study of Spanish can engage with students from countries where the language pulses with life, as they participate in the innovative Comenius project.

Through the exploration of diverse topics, students will be captivated and motivated to unlock their full potential. They will cultivate a wide array of skills, collaborate effectively with others, and enhance their learning experience alongside their problem-solving abilities, setting the stage for future success.
