Modern Foreign Languages

“Learning languages aids brain development: Not knowing any other languages curbs our ability to understand the world. Learning another language does not only open the doors to different cultures but is also a pleasant way of stimulating our brain”. Tribune May 2010

Students in Year 7 and Year 8 study both French and Spanish.

In Year 9, students will continue with either French or Spanish for one hour a week. Some students might want to follow our GCSE course in one year.

At Key Stage 3 students are given the opportunity to take part in stimulating and engaging lessons during which they will be taught a variety of topics. Students can join a variety of clubs, such as games club, homework club, etc., during which they will be able to work with students from other groups while having fun.

We offer a trip to Boulogne in Year 7 and to Rue in Year 8. We organise cultural days such as Bastille Day and we give students the opportunity to meet with professionals during our Language Conference day.

At Key Stage 4 students who study French have opportunities to be in touch with students from the countries where the target language is spoken and be part of the Comenius project. Our students also have the opportunity to go on trips, such as the Christmas market in Lille.

Through the study of a variety of topics, students will be fully engaged and will be able to develop their potential. They will develop many skills, working with others and improving their own learning, performance and problem solving.
